We're really sorry about the schedule. The venue has youth tournaments from time to time. This one came up somewhat by surprise. We have the schedule for the entire season done, but we had to jiggle things around because of this Sunday. The full schedule will be up on Monday. Thanks.
In their first two games ever in the Tucson Basketball League, HMB scored a combined total of 61 points in losses to The Good Fight and Barrio Benchmen. But this Sunday, HMB went all crazy and racked up 60 points (in one game!) for their first win of the season, a 60-54 win over G-Sauce. Tyler Shipman hit four threes and scored 18 points in the win. Just so you'll know, HMB is short for the popular meme "Hold My Beer." The team consists of a bunch of guys from Davis-Monthan Air Force Base. When they first proposed the full team name, they were told that the TBL has a 30-year policy of not allowing drug and/or alcohol references in team names. They graciously shortened it to HMB. After doubling their points-per-game output, they may have to provide urine samples.
Dominic Dicochea had 35 points to lead Zona to a 73-52 win over Hickory...Beast Mode pulled away late to nab a 60-49 victory over Kenny Neal's Team...Fleet got 24 points on eight threes from Solomon Canastillo in a 73-59 win over Game Time...Outlawz got double figure scoring from John Gomez IV, Phil Raimo and Zach Ryberg in a 50-43 win over Tucson Hustle...
The funeral service for our dear friend Randy Zimmerman was held Sunday. May he rest in peace.
Now that our final team, Nike, has played two games, the stats will appear online shortly. The high-school girls basketball team that I coach (Immaculate Heart) is participating in the State Tournament this weekend in Prescott. I'll finish the stats when I get back.
Finally, the venue is hosting some kind of tournament this week, so we will have an abbreviated schedule. Sorry.
