The Barrio Benchmen grabbed their first victory of the young season with a 37-27 win over HMB. Andy Bemis led the Bencvhmen with 16 points but went a stinkaroo 1-6 from the free-throw line.
We sometimes have games that get out of hand, score-wise. (Things never get out of hand, behavior-wise.) In a classic match-up of Marana High School alumni, R.T.P. squared off against Scrap Attack. In an extremely competitive first half, Scrap Attack scratched out a 27-21 lead. But in the second half, led by Mike Klinger's eight three-pointers, Scrap Attack outscored R.T.P., 67-24. Klinger finished with 26 points, while Herman Harris had 25 for R.T.P. Also, congratulations to long-time league member Sean Roebuck, whose flag football team won the national championship in flag football. The game was played in Orlando, just before the NFL Pro Bowl. Sean's son caught the winning touchdown pass.
In other games:
Fleet 49, BOS 37 - In a surprisingly low-scoring game, Fleet jumped out to a 30-11 halftime lead, then held on for the win. Fleet was led by David "Guero" Paredes with 13 points, while Manny Castro led BOS with 16 points.
LeBrontourage 51, still got it 49 - There are just too many easy jokes about how still got it no longer has it. We'll just say they put up a good fight against the balanced LeBrontourage attack.
Zona 57, Tucson Hustle 51 - Dominic Dicochea poured in 29 points, including four threes, to lead Zona to a close win.
This week is the Super Bowl. The game itself starts some time after 4:30, so we'll be having games up until 3:00. (The last games will start at 2:00.) Early next week, after Rob and I have seen the final two new teams, we'll be able to formulate and post the schedule for the rest of the season. Thank you for your patience.
